Responsible mineral procurement
The Citizen Group (Citizen Watch Co., Ltd. and its group companies) is aware that it is an important international issue that certain minerals originating in conflict areas and high-risk areas (CAHRAs)＊1, such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo and surrounding countries, are providing a source of funds for armed groups and promoting conflicts, human rights abuses and environmental destruction. In addition, the Citizen Group supports the concept of "OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas". In response to the application of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation in 2021, we reviewed the Citizen Group Conflict Minerals Response Policy and updated it to the Citizen Group Responsible Minerals Procurement Policy" in January 2021.
Citizen Group Responsible Minerals Procurement Policy
In order to fulfill our social responsibilities in the supply chain in cooperation with our business partners, the Citizen Group, as a policy, will not use target minerals＊１ that may contribute to any risk of human rights abuses such as child labor or forced labor, environmental destruction, conflicts, terrorist financing, money laundering, corruption, or fraudulent financing—in mining, trading, handling, export, and our other business activities.
It does not mean, however, that any and all minerals mined and traded in conflict areas and high-risk areas should not be used, but that we may use minerals mined and traded in these areas if they are not related to human rights violations, environmental destruction, conflicts, corruption, or other wrongdoings.
If a potential target risk*2 is confirmed, we will request the relevant business partners to take corrective actions.
Established: April 2019. Amended: January 2021
＊1 Target minerals: 3TG (tantalum, tin, tungsten, gold) and cobalt

- We are requesting our business partners to realize the importance of complying with the Citizen Group Code of Conduct and the Citizen Group CSR Procurement Guidelines.
- A survey is being conducted in accordance with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.
- A 3TG survey is under way by using the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT), a tool provided by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), to determine the presence or absence of conflict minerals and identify smelters in the supply chain. At the same time, we confirm and evaluate the status of our business partners' efforts on target minerals and take action according to the risks.
We also request our business partners to procure minerals from smelters or refineries that comply with RMAP*2 or from those which comply with the Citizen Group's customer compliance standards.
Regarding cobalt, we will proceed with a survey using the Cobalt Reporting Template (CRT) based on the business characteristics of the Citizen Group.
- In response to requests from Citizen Group customers to provide supply chain information, the above CMRT and CRT are providing such information.
