Citizen Electronics Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fuji-Yoshida-shi, Yamanashi; President: Akira Watanabe) has developed "CITILED Tunable White COB series" to realize beautiful, color tunable spot lighting. We will start accepting orders in June of this year.

In recent years, LED lighting has become a new stage of evolution. In addition to increasing light emission efficiency, which has traditionally been emphasized, a variety of functions have been added, such as the "quality of light" that makes objects look more beautiful. In particular, the Tunable White functions that can be adjusted from warm white to cool white light can change the color of lighting according to time, season, and scene, such as white in the daytime and warm colors from evening to night. These functions bring new added value to lighting, such as the application to circadian lighting*.

CITILED Tunable White COB is a LED packaging that is suitable for spot-lighting applications used primarily in stores and restaurants. The COB package is characterized by the direct mounting of LED chips onto the substrate, resulting in a uniform light-emitting surface. Our new product features two color-emitting sections within a single LED package, and its unique package structure significantly enhances the color mixing capability of the LED light source. This facilitates the design of optical lenses and contributes to the "miniaturization and narrowing of the directional angle" of color tunable luminaires, which are difficult to achieve with conventional products.

■Main Features
1.High-quality color tunable lighting at narrow angles

In conventional products, when the light is narrowed by combining it with an optical lens, the light emission pattern of LED light source is projected to the illumination spot as shown in ① of the above table. This results in uneven light intensity and color distribution. (This is more noticeable when using two-color-emitting tonal lighting.) To eliminate this unevenness, it is necessary to devise ways to mix light in the optical components and fixtures, causing optical loss. On the other hand, CITILED Tunable White COB offers improved color mixing as a single light source, which eliminates optical loss in narrow-angle applications, enabling the creation of high-quality irradiated spots.

2.Improvement of luminous efficiency

In CITILED Tunable White COB, by optimizing LED chip and the blend of phosphors, we have succeeded in achieving a luminous efficiency improvement of 23% in 2700K and 16% in 6500K compared to our conventional products, as well as in enhancing color mixing.

　This new product has made it possible to extend the range of applications for our COB light sources to color tunable lighting systems. The high luminous efficiency also contributes to the realization of a sustainable lighting environment by responding to social demands such as energy conservation. Citizen Electronics will continue to contribute to the development of LED light sources by developing products using advanced packaging technology accumulated over many years and high-quality, high-reliability technology.

*Circadian lighting: Lighting design that changes the intensity and color of light to match the circadian rhythm of an internal clock
